I’m pretty happy.

I’ve had a pretty productive day. I bought two things that have been on my list for a while. I bought a paper shredder and a swimsuit – both on sale.

I been wanting a paper shredder forever, but I’ve been waiting for the prices to come down. Today I found a diamond cut one sale-priced for $35 – but it was out of stock, so I went with a $30 (sale) cross-cut one and then the guy at Office Depot gave me another $5 off because of the inconvenience of the one I wanted being out of stock. I’m totally loving Office Depot – Staples would never have done such a thing and I’ve never seen a cross-cut one there for less than $80. So now I can clean my filing cabinet out and shred 10 years of credit card statements.

I looked at bikinis today for the first time in 20 years. Not because I have anymore of a bikini body today than I did when I was 20, but because in the intervening decades the designers have realized that not every woman can or wants to fit into four triangles of fabric roughly 3 x 3 inches. That said, I still can’t wear a bikini – tankinis on the other hand look really nice on me. But I didn’t find one of those either. I finally settled on a one-piece in a vivid, wildly candy-striped fabric of oranges, yellows, pinks, and greens. I look like one of those satin, rainbow-striped suck candies you get at Christmas-time. Ummm-hmmm. I needed a swimsuit because I want to go to bare-ass beach when I go home. I know that sounds contradictory, but it’s true.

I also got sucked into the Jacob outlet store. I mean, seriously, I tried to walk past, but the next thing I knew I was in the change room trying on a cotton-candy pink cotton dress. It would have gone home with me too, if they’d had it in my size. I did buy a handful of 99 cent panties though. Once I got them home I decided I really like one of the styles so now I’m debating if it’s worth it to drive back across the city just to buy some scraps of light green net and pink lace – I sure wouldn’t have bought them at their original $10 a piece price, but 99 cents just might be worth it.

I have a list of things as long as my arm to do this weekend, because every one of my stupid friends has gone away for the weekend. I’m friendless and alone. But if I get bunches of stuff done, it will all be worth it. I think I’ll go to the museum tomorrow morning.

But my kitchen floor should be dry now and I should go vacuum the rest of my house.
