2006-10-21 - 9:36 p.m. I know this boy. He is the son of a friend of a friend; someone in one of my circles of acquaintanceship. It is just tragic. I saw him at the end of July at a birthday party. I remember remarking to his mother about what a little charmer he was. He was a little bit flirty, a little bit serious, a little bit earnest, a little bit imperious. Precocious, independent, handsome, well-spoken, sociable. What this article doesn't say is that he was an only child, a late much sought after child. I just keep thinking about his little body in the cold, cold water and how scared he much have been as he fell. I keep thinking about his father looking so frantically for him, finding him in the lake and trying so desperately to revive him. And his mother on a transatlantic flight looking forward to seeing her son and finding out when she stepped off the plane what had happened. My friend said to me: my daughter woke me up at 2:45 a.m. but I just think, at least she's alive.
