2007-01-11 - 7:44 p.m. Would someone please buy me a vowel? I did it. I went to the Polish class. I haven't yet learnt to say: "I must be out of my ever-loving mind." But I can say "blackboard". That's gotta come in handy sometime. Lordy, lordy, but Polish is so utterly foreign and so full of consonants. In reviewing what I learned this morning, I realized that I did learn quite a bit. For instance, don't ask a Polish person how they are (jak sie masz?), unless you really want to know. If you ask that question you have to mean it: it is not used lightly the way it is here. We did the alphabet, and practiced various words (none of which remain in my head for more than 10 seconds), and learnt how to use the accents. It's going to be a lot of hard work. I might try to get some Polish talking books out of the library, so I can start hearing how it is supposed to sound. The blizzard here was a total bust. It blew a lot, snowed a little, and got really cold. Seemed normal for this time of year. The roads are dreadful though - like sheets of glass.
