2007-01-31 - 10:27 p.m. Tonight we are having the blizzard that we didn't have a few weeks back. Although, "technically" it isn't a blizzard because it doesn't meet whatever criteria a blizzard has to meet (sustained windspeeds over a certain amount, I believe). It's dark and swirly white and hugely gusty out there. I could barely see to make my turn off into the back alley. But this happened again tonight. I'd come up with a pragmatic explanation for it. I live up the hill from the Conservatory and since it always seems to happen close to home I'd decided that maybe the Conservatory somehow vents delicious flower smells that I drive through. Of course, this lets out the fact that it is always one particular flower smell at a time, not a mixture, but by all means let us be pragmatic. Tonight, however, I was quite a distance away from home on Whyte Ave. (i.e. several kilometres away from the Conservatory), in the middle of a swirling blizzard, when it happened. Suddenly my van was suffused with this fresh, delicate flower scent which I recognized but couldn't identify. It lasted longer this time - maybe a whole block or two before fading. It is a mystery.
