2007-03-18 - 9:08 p.m. Now that I rozumiem troche po polsku (understand a little Polish) I hear people speaking it. How cool is that? Just random people out on the street - well, mostly in Wal Mart. Three different times in the past couple of weeks. I may not get the gist of what they are saying, but I understand a word here and there and know that they are speaking Polish. I wouldn't have thought that Polish was so common, but I guess there is a large community here. Heck, you can even send your kid to Polish immersion. I never told you a story from my very first class that still makes me laugh. The word for good is dobrze, pronounced "do-bzhe" (maybe dobsha is a easier to understand phonetic). My teacher used it a lot as filler. We'd repeat something and she'd say "dobrze". The first time she said it I totally thought she said "dogshit". It seemed a little rude and all. It was the first class, the first Polish word we'd attempted and there she was calling it dogshit. I told this story to someone last night and she totally thought I'd said dogshit too.
